That is, this storm will turn residents of Nautilus into Crystal Gems! Gems are a race of aliens who are actually gemstones, able to manifest a physical body with their gemstone on show (i.e. on their forehead, in their palms or even, like Steven's, on their belly button). Wakened characters will find that their clothing, skin and hair colour matches the facets of their gemstone. All gems have the ability to summon a unique weapon from their gem and retreat into their gem when their body is heavily injuried. Technically immortal, the only way to kill a gem is to destroy their gemstone - breaking or cracking a Wakened's gemstone will result in their form 'glitching out'.
Some unlucky residents may not be Crystal Gems but Corrupted Gems - gems injured or otherwise altered so they manifest as monters rather than as people. Corrupted gems are dangerous and lack sentient thought, and will attack others without hesitation - the only exception being when Steven attempted to heal one by spending time with them.
No bending during this storm! Figure out how to use your gem powers instead!
At the end of the storm, everyone who was turned into a gem will recieve their gem weapon as a souvenir. Everyone will recieve a gemstone, regardless if they transformed or not.
