Character History: You have two options for the history requirement:

Network: Your network sample entry should be made as if your character were posting to a public network, such as Dreamwidth. It does not have to be their first post (ie, "OMG WHERE AM I?!"), but it does have to show that the character is perfectly aware of the fact that this is something that other people are likely to see. Please avoid excessive use of descriptions in [action tags] here, as one would get in video posts - we're looking for your character's voice, the one they use for talking to others. Save the internal monologues for the third person sample.

If you use TDM for your network sample it needs to meet the following requirements:
* Taken from the Test Drive Meme for The Wake and not any other game
* Contains at least 12 comments from the character being applied for
* Contains enough material for us to see how the character is like
* Has to reflect their first person voice

Third Person: 300 word minimum. This is the place to show your character's inner thoughts within the setting. Give us a nice third person narrative of your character doing something, plus how they feel about it. This doesn't have to be blatant "this is what my character is thinking, designated by italics!" but should rather show your character's self via their actions and interactions with their environment.

Original Character Applications - we ask that you be AS DETAILED AS POSSIBLE.

Hello, and thank you for your interest in The Wake! Before we consider your application for approval, we'll need some revisions and a clarification.

The wikia link only goes to the wikia itself and not the character's entry.

Network sample needs more added as we can't really get a sense of his voice. In terms with shy/quiet characters, there are other ways to get around the limitations of that character type. Such as him not realizing that he's being recorded and having him say/do things he wouldn't normally do around strangers, but would say to himself.

The link in the third person sample doesn't work, but TDM links can only be used for network samples and only if they are in a network type style (action spam). Also your written third person sample is too short as it's only 228 words.

We would like clarification on his abilities. Does he actually have powers or not? The two sentences "Adam doesn't really have any 'powers' more than any normal person would have." and "Because he has spent time learning and practicing he has a stronger psychic ability and thus has learned to separate his mind and his body." contradict each other so we're confused about that part. What is his relationship to the powers, regardless if he has any or not? If he does have powers, are they simply not as strong as most others with said powers?

Powers an Abilities: Adam is the same as a normal person in most respects. Because he has spent time learning then practicing he has strengthened his psychic ability and thus has learned to separate his mind (or spirit or what have you) and his body usually through scrying.

Samples

Network:

[ Other people might think his eyes are a bit unnerving since they do have a tendency to linger in a silent stare. He is thought of as being shy but he is actually just quiet; observing. He rarely speaks of his own thoughts. Even when alone he says little to nothing. It took friends of his months of seeing his behavior to find out what he was really like. Now he would feel better if he could see how things work here. Like watch a class or something. But there isn't the time.

Though he doesn't own one, Adam knows how a cell phone works. When the feed comes up, it's just a teenager with dirt brown colored hair. He's tried his best to remove the Virginia accent but it still shows in his voice. He is very polite though. He is hoping to find a teacher but any information would be helpful. ]

My name is Adam Parrish. I'm guessing that it gets asked a lot, but if I could please speak to someone who knows a bit more about 'bending' I would be grateful.

[ And that's it. The video ends there. Adam is a soft-spoken boy who is secretive and withdrawn. He doesn't say much but he does mean what he says. He doesn't know how he could repay any help he might find, but there has to be something he could do, even if it's just basic chores. ]

Both Noah and Maura have said it was dangerous but Adam still did it. He understood the danger a little better now though.

The difficult part was keeping the knife-sharp balance of being able to detach his mind but still be able to feel sensations in his body. This 'psychic sense' would allow him to go to so many different places. He went now; following the course of the ley line, looking for snarls or breaks. Something that would be the interruption that he sought. Because it had to be the line. Nothing else was powerful enough to have the kind of strange effects that were starting to influence people around him. But that sense of something being off-kilter kept pulling him away from the line. There was something important about this, something he would have to address first he could tell. Going with that pull rather than trying to resist meant he did not know what he was looking at. Parts of the Virginia forest were disappearing. There were lakes and streams either turning course or vanishing entirely. The Raven made of shells was being replaced with the solid stone. There was no damage, things were there and then they just weren't. It seemed like...a break, in reality, That was the best way he could think of to describe it. Something with a domino effect since as he watched the forest disappearing he felt the pulse of the ley line becoming fainter and fainter inside him. This break in reality was slowly and steadily picking loose the threads that made up the world as he knew it.

He was disturbed but Adam knew that he needed to go back. He felt like he had to wade back to his body - he had been away too long - but the cold of his shabby attic apartment seeped back into his awareness quickly. Adam blinked for the first time in a long time, then he immediately frowned. Something was very wrong. He was trying to think of what he could do to address it when he heard a voice;

Unfortunately, we still need more revisions and clarifications, as we are canon blind.

We cannot directly help with applications as it would create a bias. All we can give is suggestions. If you wish to have more direct help, you should ask for people to beta your applications in the future.

We don't really see much improvement with the network sample as we still cannot get a sense of his voice. How does he act when he's not shy? Shy people tend to have a separate, but related, personality for those they're not shy with or when they're by themselves.

Introspection should be more reserved for third person sample. We hugely suggest that you look at accepted applications and see what we are looking for in terms of shy/quiet characters.

As for clarifications, do all characters have powers? What do you mean by him being "ordinary"? As in have powers but is ordinary in personality and if so, how is he ordinary in personality? Or is he ordinary in that he's an ordinary person without powers?

Again, "Adam doesn't really have any 'powers' more than any normal person would have. Because he has spent time learning and practicing he has a stronger psychic ability and thus has learned to separate his mind and his body." is saying two contradictory ideas and is what's mainly causing our confusion.

(I did get my app looked at. It was looked at by someone who was canon familiar though.)

Powers an Abilities: Adam is normal in almost every respect but one. Because he has learned how and then practiced at it he can now separate his mind (or soul or animus or what-have-you) from his body. This has two drawbacks. The first being that the soul is a fragile traveler and if Adam is not in his body that would mean that it could be pretty easily possessed. The second risk is that the body and the soul are not meant to both be alive and apart. Adam's body will die if his soul is away too long. By doing so through scrying he is able to use this 'psychic sense' to see what Cabeswater has needed him to do in canon. In rp it would allow him to see people as they are. For example, an angel would appear to be brilliantly glowing and a demon would be all darkness regardless of how they choose to appear most of the time. As it is a 'psychic sense' he would gain the ability to see what is going to happen or what is happening elsewhere but it would all be a mixed up jumble of symbolism, physical sensations, and tiny bits of real-time without any context. Basically, it would be debatable how helpful that would be.

Network Sample:

[ While Adam doesn't own one, he is perfectly capable of operating a phone. The video starts with just a plain teenage boy. The only interesting thing about him is that he looks a bit pensive. He is silent, then. Just frowning at the camera as if he is thinking carefully about his words. ]

Hello. My name is Adam Parrish an' before I do anything else, I need to ask a question. I understand that there are 'Wakened' from a lot a' realities.

[ He's distressed enough for his rural Virginia accent to show through. ]

They come from realities with 'Flaws' in 'em. An' a lot a' people want ta fix 'em for their friends' realities.

[ He falls silent again, looking away from the camera. Even once he looks back he doesn't speak right away. ]

…an' what about the people in those realities? Do they know there's somethin' wrong or do they go along with it? Do they remember what came before? Can ya tell 'em there's somethin' wrong at all?

[ He falls silent again Not for lack of having more questions but needing those answered before he asks more. ]

Since it has been over 2 weeks since the last reply I am going to go ahead and withdraw my app from Wake. I fully understand being really busy and I was prepared to wait but it has now been 4 weeks since I first submitted the app and I would like to be able to play in a game.
